2016 - 2021

WATCH DOGS LEGION was released in October of 2020. Shipping a game during the pandemic was extremely challenging. Everyone was forced to work from home 8 months before shipping. I’m very proud of all the work my team produced for Watch Dogs Legion and of the entire World Art Team. After the game was shipped I remained on the project overseeing the Object Bank mandate for the upcoming DLC.

My team was responsible for a huge amount of content for this project. I worked for 5 years on Watch Dogs Legion managing a team of up to 8 Artists. Everything I learned from working on Watch Dogs 2 helped me pitch an ambitious mandate for my team on WD3. I establish an asset pipeline and provided all direction for architecture and interior designs related to the Pubs including exterior architectural kits produced for our locations, and an extensive list of props and gameplay objects for both the main game and upcoming DLC. My talented Team Members included Daniel Luka, Jeffrey Martin, Zubair Islam, Jonathan Batt, Lilian Chow, Victor To, Melvin Philip and Nick Le Zhang.

Here are the stats!

Pub culture is very much a part of everyday life in London. Early in production I presented a proposal to the directors to have my team recreate various historic London Pubs found throughout London. In addition to these landmark pubs we also created Generic Pubs that can be used wherever there was a need for one. In total we provided 10 Unique Pub footprints complete with Interiors.

One of the Landmark Pubs found in Watch Dogs Legion. Modelled off of a real world Pub found in London. All Pub layouts were initially blocked out by myself and then assigned to the team to complete. This example was produced by artists Daniel Luka and Jonathan Batt. This one has Easter Egg behind the fireplace upstairs.

The Cat Boat returns with the help of Lilian Chow, Daniel Luka and Amanda Mundt. This time there’s more than just one Cat Boat

The Iconic Red Tube Stations of London. Modelled and Textured by Daniel Luka.

Our team also produced a Subway system or “Tube Kit” to accommodate the games Fast Travel. This kit was also complimented in key locations with the addition of the classic red tiled buildings found in the city of London. These Red buildings are iconic to London’s Tube Stations. Artist Daniel Luka was responsible for modelling and texturing this kit following my direction. I knew from the start that we had to include these Iconic buildings If we were building a subway system for a future London.

The Tube Kit interiors were developed by Jeffrey Martin following the Art Directors initial designs. This modular interior kit was used in over 50 different locations in the game. The kit consisted of various entrance types in order to accommodate all the different architectural door & entrance styles found throughout the world. Initially we had plans for players to see the subway platforms, but this was cut.

The Tube Kit consisted of multiple configurations and styles with functional turnstiles for the player to engage the Fast Travel system. As you approach the curved glass, it opens and activates the Fast Travel. Modelled and Textured by Jeffrey Martin. World Integration and turnstile animation by David Carter

Some of my responsibilities included:

  • All Blockouts of Pub interiors and Exteriors, including new Building Kits needed for our mandate following established metrics.

  • Directed all placements of Pubs & Tube Stations in the open world working with Level Designers, World Director & TDLD’s

  • Provided all reference material and art direction for Pub Interiors, Exteriors and worked closely with Art Director on the Tube Stations.

  • Coordinated with Montreal Branding Team, Toronto Art Direction, and Technical Directors for all Watch Dogs Legion Clothing Shops.

  • Managing my teams production timeline and all deliverables, working closely with Ubisoft Paris & Montreal teams.

  • Provided a comprehensive Confluence page for Managers & Producers to view my teams work and our progress in real time.

Clothing Shops were also a major part of Watch Dogs Legion, but instead of following the direction of Watch Dogs 2, the directors wanted all the player interactions to take place on the street. This removed the need for Clothing Shop interiors. This change in direction presented it’s own set of challenges but also introduced new opportunities. We produced 27 uniquely branded Clothing Shops placed in 134 locations.
