The Industrial Decay Network
2007 - 2011
I’ve always been fascinated with abandoned places. I have childhood memories from family road trips and seeing old roads along the country side or off the highways. My Dad even asked my mom to stop at one once and we followed an old road to an abandoned barn for a picnic. My Dad and I always loved using that term ‘Old Road’
I started playing with photography in the early 2000’s. I had used cameras on and off before that but only once in awhile like when i went on a trip to the UK in 1994. Photography only became a regular thing when I got my first Digital Camera around 2001. It was a 2 megapixel camera. I started exploring abandoned houses before I carried around a camera everyday. I remember during my rave days in the 90’s my friends and I would all load up into a car and drive to various abandoned houses that I had previously spotted while driving the country backroads. We would go at night, bring a tape deck and some candles and just hang out. Then in 2003 I started to visit Industrial areas in Toronto, revisiting some of the old warehouses we used to rave at in the 90’s. I started a Flickr Group called Industrial Decay which is still active. There was also a Blogger site I put together that showcased the best uploads for the week.
In 2007 I self published my first book showcasing some of my favourite images I had captured since starting in 2003. It was titled ‘Surface: Industrial Decay’ Then a year later I published the first IDN book where I collaborated with various photographers from around the world to showcase some of the best Industrial Decay photography at the time. This continued with 2 more Volumes with the final release in 2011.
All of these books are still available for purchase. They are available through Blurb.com Click the image to visit their website.
