The Industrial Decay Network
2007 - 2011
I’ve always been fascinated with abandoned places. I have childhood memories from family road trips and seeing old roads while driving the country side or off highways. While on a road trip to Montreal my Dad once asked my mom to stop at one and we followed it to an abandoned barn for a picnic. My Dad always loved it when I talked about Old Roads.
I started playing with photography in the early 2000’s. I had used a point & shoot film camera in the past when I went on a trip to the UK in 1994, but photography only became a regular thing for me when I got my first Digital Camera around 2001. It was a Canon Cybershot 2 megapixel camera. I was exploring abandoned houses well before I carried around a camera everyday, really wish I had one back then. I remember during my rave days in the 90’s my friends and I would all load up into a car and drive to various abandoned houses at night. We would bring a tape deck and some candles and just hang out. Then in 2003 I started to explore Industrial areas in Toronto, revisiting some of the old warehouses we used to rave at. I started a Flickr Group called Industrial Decay in the early 2000’s which is still active today. There was also a Blogger site I put together that showcased the best uploads every week.
In 2007 I self published my first book showcasing some of my favourite images I had captured since I started exploring Industrial sites in 2003. It was titled ‘Surface: Industrial Decay’ Then a year later I published the first IDN book where I collaborated with various photographers from around the world to showcase some of the best Industrial Decay photography at the time. This continued with 2 more Volumes with the final release in 2011.
All of these books are still available for purchase. Available through Blurb.com - Click the images to see a preview for each book.
