SS22 - September 2021 - New York Fashion Week

With no Fashion Week in 2020 due to the pandemic, I was excited to return to New York for the first in person women’s shows since 2019. It was stressful and expensive navigating around the different COVID restrictions with multiple PCR tests required to fly. I already had lots of anxiety about going back to Fashion Week, not knowing if I should even continue shooting Street Style. In the end, I was very happy I took this trip. It wasn’t nearly as busy as pre-pandemic days, but it was really uplifting to see all my friends and fellow photographers. Here are some of my favorite photos from New York Fashion Week, SS22

In addition to shooting digital, I also decided to bring one of my vintage 8mm cameras. Standard 8mm film is not the same as Super 8. It predates Super 8 by 30+ years. No light meter, no auto focus, no batteries. Completely mechanical. The film below is my first attempt at a short New York Fashion Week film on 8mm. Edited in Adobe Premier to music by When in Rome with their song ‘The Promise’ from the 1980’s. All of this footage was shot on a 1937 Bell & Howell 8mm camera. I knew this years Fashion Week was going to look a lot different from what I’ve experienced in the past. There were no international attendees or photographers due to the travel restrictions. Attendance to the shows was very light. Here are a few more photos from September 2021.
